I am here in Tuscany, nourished by the Tuscan sun and culinary delights. I love the intensity and purity of flavours: the sweetness of the sun-ripened tomatoes, the freshness of the vibrant mint in my tea, and the satiating flavours of the cheeses that go so beautifully with the regional wine. I have not only indulged in the flavours with my taste buds (and stomach!), but my sensory journey commences every day with my morning run. The scent of herbs is everywhere. I find myself stopping to rub leaves to help determine what herbs I run past, and even if I can identify them by sight, I still satisfy my olfactory senses with an intimate rub.
One of the herbs that dominates the air near our room is rosemary. I love rosemary. Not only does it couple well with lamb and Italian sausage pasta, but you can add rosemary to your Negroni cocktail for a savoury, yet refreshing, flavour. After all, rosemary is a plant in the mint family (for those who have been on my foraging walk, remember, “Squares and Pairs”!), so anywhere you would use mint, try experimenting with rosemary.
